An oil painting of a doocot (dovecote) on the road between Anstruther and St Andrews Fife. I used to drive past this spot often when I had a studio in Fife. Doocots are lovely old buildings where doves or pigeons used to be housed. Unused but preserved now, they still fit in beautifully with the surrounding countryside and can provide a great focal point for a painter and are a delight for visitors too. In the foreground the ploughed field leads up to the doocot, beyond which there is a glimpse of the yellow fields - all under a strong blue summer sky.
