Lady L. is part of the CalbinoOz series of sculptures made from the wood of a natural calabash grown in the south of France.

This calabash, with its magnificent and rare stains, has been emptied of its contents, seeds and skin so that it can be exported all over the world. It rests on a black iron base for added stability, as calabashes tend to be fairly light when emptied, with the long ones more likely to tip over without a base or new filling to make them heavier.

More than a canine, she is an elegant, refined lady dog with an atypical coat embroidered with changing patterns and shades between red and leathery brown, wearing elbow-length gloves. She has pearly toenails and beautiful blue glass-blown eyes that are anxious for reassurance. The mesh of her dress and its varying hues required long hours of painstaking work by the artist. In fact, the motifs in relief on a variegated deep red background, with each tiny dot of flower in a lighter carmine red, have been worked with a fine brush...
