One of a very small number of prints remaining from the edition. I was inspired to do a series of three wood engravings of my dog, Portia, recording her various encounters with the wildlife of the Adelaide Hills. Here she is having a conversation with a magpie, amongst the grapevines. Wood engravings are made in the end grain of wood, usually cherry, pear or box, using extremely fine engraving tools. I have to import the blocks from England as the native woods here are not as fine grained. This block was 4 x 5 cm - about the size of a matchbox.
