Artwork description:

This monotype print is inspired by a disused building near the railway in Taunton.

The image has been created through applying layers of colour from various acrylic plates, each with a different primary and secondary colour. Through the process of monoprinting, the colour from each plate was lifted away, leaving only the areas of colour required to create the final image.

This image captures the feel of the building that has been left to nature, with trees, bushes and vines growing around and on top of the building. The aesthetic of these colours and the layering and removal of colour responds to the entropy seen on the walls of the building, creating an entropic aesthetic leaning towards a form of abstraction from the figurative.

This print began life as a ghost print from one that recently sold at the RWA Secret Postcard Auction (June 2020), but this print was developed further to become something unique in its own way. It has become something ghostly, like an apparition of something that has now become a sculptural presence in the landscape, slowly retunring back to nature.

Materials used:

Oil Based Printing Ink, Fabriano Paper Stock.
