This photographic series evolves from an interest in surfaces under stress, weathering, deterioration and decay. Dis/Integration is an exploration and exposition of the process in which distress and decay in themselves create beauty, and reflect truths which extend beyond the surface. Shot on the East Anglian coast, these are the rusted and decaying sea defences which are our attempt to hold back time and tide in an area which is undergoing a constant assault from water and weather, and suffering serious and seemingly unstoppable erosion and destruction.

These images represent in abstracted close-up the inevitable and inexorable decomposition of the manufactured and also the natural world, a constant reminder that everything created is ultimately destroyed, that birth is the beginning of a journey with only one possible outcome, that despite the advance of civilisation and technology the power of nature remains always outside our control.

So, the question becomes whether we despair at our lack of ability to control our ultimate destiny or that of our creations, or accept the transience inherent in our existence and celebrate the moments we experience and the beauty within them. The Dis/Integration series is therefore an invitation to experience every moment as fully as we are able and focus on the things we can control instead of the things we can't, in the knowledge that our time is short.

This listing is for a pair of aluminium-mounted C-Type prints, each 16x12 inches, designed to be hung 1-2 inches apart to create an overall artwork size of 16x26 inches approx. Hand-signed and numbered on the back.

The photograph is professionally lab-printed onto Fuji Crystal Archive DPII paper using a traditional photo-chemical process, then mounted and sealed on a 3 layer aluminium substrate (for superb stability and warp-resistance). Finally, a UV-protective coating is applied to protect the prints. Wall-fixings are pre-fitted, so the piece is ready to hang straight away.

Also available as unmounted prints in a range of sizes on Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl paper (or similar), printed on either one or two sheets, hand-signed and numbered in the border, or as pairs of gallery-wrap canvases (signed and numbered on the back).

Please contact me for information and pricing on different sizes and finishes, or with any other questions.

Limited edition of 25 includes all sizes and finish options - this piece will be printed no more than 25 times in any form.

Please be aware that gallery-quality prints of this kind takes a little time. Turnaround times vary from 7 business days for unmounted prints to 10 business days on average for canvas and aluminium mounting, after which I take delivery of the work for inspection before shipping to you. Guaranteed to be worth the wait!
