I've come back to the sweet shop for my latest pop art food painting. It depicts the packaging of a classic British treat, a Dip Dab, which is basically a bag of sugary sherbet with a strawberry lollypop to dip into it.
As ever with sweets the packaging was always very eye-catching and well designed, perfectly depicting what you'd be getting inside and primed to capture the eye of young kids like me. The modern day packaging looks different from this but I chose the original 80s style design as I thought it had a more graphic impact.
As ever with many of my works the design goes around the edge and the shape of the canvas mimics the actual shape of the object - so it's like an actual art object as well as a painting of it.
It's a bold bright painting that would brighten up any room in your home, or would make an ideal gift for someone special.
It is painted in acrylics and Posca paint pens on a stretched cotton canvas. It's signed and dated on the back frame, as depicted.
Size -
8.3 inches x 5.8 inches
21 cm x 14.8 cm
Roughly 1 cm thick
PLEASE NOTE: The final image shows some of the other retro sweet pop art paintings in my shop.
I've been inspired to create work like this by classic pop artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Patrick Caulfield, and by modern day graphic designers and food packaging.
Postage will be first class in a cardboard envelope. I can also do paintings to order, use the 'commission' button to get in touch.
