Original artwork description:

The 'Diary drawings' are quick sketches made on location. In this instance the location is Buttermere in Cumbria U.K. which, without going into too much detail, is one of the most beautiful rural landscapes in the world.
Each drawing has to be completed within five minutes in order to capture a moment in a brief time frame. The drawings are quick responses. I’ve been making many ‘quick response’ drawings recently. Rather than study an idea or subject for an extended period of time, I am interested in the moments that pass by. The moments that occur so quickly, the ‘blink of an eye’. Cumbria is a landscape I visit regularly, so there is familiarity. The moments I refer to are ‘at the time and in the moment’. You know the place but it changes, and in Cumbria ‘changes’ in appearance and atmosphere are quite dramatic. These drawings are not intending to replicate a photographic ‘reality’. They are gestural responses. This is an ink drawing 30x20cms on 300gms canvas paper. The drawing is shipped in a card window mount 40x30cms. “Drawing 4 Buttermere 04 09 18” was made on the 4th of September 2018. The drawing was made from a viewpoint looking away from the lake towards the mountains of Grasmore . It was a bright and chilly morning. The soundscape was silent. The light was remarkably intense.
Please see the pictures where the drawing is shown in a large glazed frame and can be purchased at an increased shipping cost, if preferred.
