It was in 1839 that Richard Wagner heard the story of the "Cursed Sea" told by sailors.
It was his first masterpiece in which he expresses themes he is fond of, wandering, the violence of feelings, redemption through death.
The Dutchman who defied God was condemned to wander the seas eternally.
Every seven years he is permitted to lift this curse on condition that he finds the love of a woman willing to follow him as a ransom sacrifice.
The Dutchman seduces Santa, who was promised to Erik. Under pressure from Erik, the Dutchman, feeling betrayed, fled in his ship. Santa joins him in his misfortune by throwing himself into the ocean, offering him the long-awaited redemption.
Through this lyrical work, Isabelle Vobmann translates all the dramatic tension, the violence of the feelings of Wagner's opera, while preserving the light of hope, that which will finally lift the curse through absolute love, a love that knows how to erase the most insurmountable obstacles and lighten the darkest horizons.
