Original artwork description:
Hyper-realistic graphite pencil portrait of iconic actor Denzel Washington. With a desire to marry pencil layering (0.5mm mechanical pencil) with dispersed graphite (cotton balls and Q-tips), the end result shows like a black/white photograph aka photo-realism.
Still outstanding (and what inspired this piece) is Mr. Washington's philanthropic attributes, namely providing a check for millions to a VA hospital a few years ago. His monetary gift was the unplanned, unanticipated result of Mr. Washington visiting soldiers at one of the poorly-rated VA hospitals. He found it in his heart to pay it forward, for so many embattled soldiers who already did as well.
The gesture impacted me, so I sat down and created this portrait of a giving man, a portrait depicting honor, nobility, selflessness, and respect.
Materials used:
Graphite pencils (0.5mm mechanical pencil, 5H, 2H, HB, 4B, 6B), cotton balls, Q-tips, blending stumps, kneaded eraser
