Original artwork description:

Painted from life in the artist's garden in Minneapolis. Features a plein air painting of a delphinium stem with blue flowers, white centers and curling and twisting green leaves at the base of the stem. The delphinium stem is surrounded by an arrangement of pansies in shades of burgundy red, deep purple, and lavender. The running and dripping effects in the background were created with casein paint and glazed over with oil. The background was created using a 3 step process in which the flowers were painted, masking fluid was applied to the flowers, the background was created with the water-based casein, and then the mask was removed and oil glazing was applied. Painted with both palette knife and brush. The shapes of the flower petals have been enhanced by thickly applied paint shaped with palette knife. Framed in a 3" wide wood framed with a mahogany colored finish. May be purchased unframed by request.
