Original artwork description:

This large painting was inspired by walks in the forest near my home and studio. The warm glow in the background could be dawn or dusk – the loveliest time to be in the forest. Apart from occasional birdsong, there is only stillness. It is this sense of peacefulness and being at one with nature that I wanted to convey with this painting.

The informal composition reflects that it is a natural place rather than cultivated forestation and, in addition to the overall impression of trees, light and colour, there is a lot of detail in this work too, from the way different species of tree grow to the undergrowth in the foreground, lovingly observed from nature.

“Deep in the Forest” is an unusual painting in that it is watercolour on canvas. The piece is ready to hang and the …thick sides of the canvas stretched on wood have also been painted using Windsor and Newton watercolour paints. Just as oil paintings are protected with varnish, this painting has been sprayed with a special protective medium for watercolour but it could also be framed, with or without glass. “Deep in the Forest” comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
