Deep Blue Ocean is a 30 x 40 inches (approximately 76 x 101cm), realist oil painting on canvas.
Inspired by the colour and endless movement of the ocean, Christopher Witchall’s painting is a bridge between abstract painting and high realism. The elements of abstract painting are all there - colour, texture, movement and contrasting tones. The paint built up in thin transparent layers and layers where the paint is thickly applied. The orientation is also ambiguous, there is no horizon to anchor the viewer. For all its abstract qualities the feeling is of a space that you could dive into and swim around.
The artist’s unsentimental approach to his subjects combine two great passions - a love of traditional painting techniques and a fascination with the photographic image. The result of this are paintings that are both painterly and highly realistic.
Deep Blue Ocean is painted on a deep edge stretched canvas, so there is no need for framing and can be hung immediately. It is signed on the back and supplied with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
