This painting is inspired by some of the paintings by Van Gogh who has been an inspiration of mine for 40 years, ever since I first came across his work as a child. The way in which I have created the painting has been influenced through manipulating the way the fluid run and carry the pigments, working with water and oil to create opposing forces to shape and form the image.
The image takes on the form of a landscape, as though we view the Sun rising in the distance to a landscape being blown by the early morning wind, whilst seeking a form of painting in a Gogh style in his subject matter and composition, rather than his mark making. The view is inspired in part by a place near Cotford St Luke, Somerset.
Oil Paper, Rock Pigments, Indian Ink, Indian Yellow, Linseed Oil, Turps, Seawater, Lake Water, Hailstone water, Snowwater, Dammar varnish, Fixative, Matt Varnish
