I've been painting flowers and foliage in oils 'en plein air' on my roof terrace this summer, and using it as a good excuse enjoy the sunshine and to avoid the fumes from oil paints as well. This painting was made of lilies which were partly hidden by other foliage - my little 'urban jungle'. You can see a photo of the painting 'in situ' in the set of photos of this painting.
I like to use oils in a translucent way, thinning them and using many layers, and making the most of the drips which run down the canvas to form stems and leaves.
This oil painting is on board which I printed a lace pattern onto using Gesso prior to painting. The pattern of the lace was left exposed in some areas to add to the textural effect.
