"Dawning Contours" is a significant oil on fibreboard study created as a preliminary exploration for the painting "Early Morning Awakening." This artwork provides insight into the artist's initial impressions and experiments with composition and colours.

The study depicts a nude woman lying on a surface covered by cloth of various hues, including yellow, white, and black. Behind her, a wall adorned with blue and grey cloth serves as a contrasting backdrop. The artist's intention was to capture the luminosity emanating from the subject's skin, resulting in a captivating visual contrast against the background colours.

Rendered with bold and expressive brushstrokes, "Dawning Contours" exudes an expressive and impressionistic quality. Through this study, Zakhar Shevchuk aimed to convey his initial observations and emotions evoked by the scene while simultaneously refining the composition and experimenting with different colour palettes.
