Here, a metamorphosis is in process - woman as tree - with rainbow colours, set on the edge of a group of trees in a dawn landscape, where the morning's light has not yet reached.

The colours of the rainbow, of the day's new light, rise through her body in relation to the body's Chakras.
She flows upwards with the suppleness, strength and energy of the tree and I've simply suggested her face in the tree's bright inner light. The rainbow colours burst into glory in a heart shape in the top branches - from red on the left to magenta on the right. Her raised arms and the tree's branches suggest a winged deity.

My inspiration for this image, as in a lot of my recent landscape artworks, is firstly the beautiful countryside where I live. My home is surrounded by huge beech trees and, being at the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, I can see for great distances across the flat fen-land towards the south and west. Another inspiration is from Greek myths: the metamorphosis of a woman changing into a tree. To name a few: Daphne, Myrrhaa and Phyllis (my namesake).

Painted in quality W&N acrylic paints with streaks of Caran d'Ache pencil. The woman's face is delicately suggested in blue.

The image is painted on beautiful Somerset 300gsm (22 x 30 inches) heavy textured paper, the surface of which which has been primed with gesso.
