Original artwork description:

This is an earlier painting of mine that is heavily influenced by Anselm Kiefer. It seems to be about humanity's failed efforts to order and control nature despite best intentions. Overtones of global warming are obvious. It is also about the tender angst of wanting beauty and happiness, but dissappointed. You can't go home again? There is no paradise? This is a stunning, show stealing artwork for a large space.

‘Darren's Garden’ is an original, one of a kind artwork by Darren Jekel and it is signed and titled on the back. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.

Description: “This large painting has areas of bold texture and color across the canvas surface. It's striking colorful palette consists of blues, greens, and yellows.

Shipping: “This artwork is offered UN-STRETCHED and shipped rolled in a tube. It was carefully removed from it's original stretcher bars. This makes it more affordable and safer to transport because it does not have to be crated . When restretched on new stretcher bars supplied by the framer or diy, the painting imagery extends around the edges, which allows the painting to look great with or without a decorative frame.” NOTE: destinations closeby, within the SF bay area, may recieve free delivery including stetcher bars.

Primary Influences: Wayne Thiebaud, who taught me how to oil paint at UC Davis; Renaissance; Raphael drawings; Post-Impressionists, Matisse & Van Gogh; Abstract Expressionists, Willem de Kooning & Cy Twombly; Neo-Expressionist, Anselm Kiefer; Currently I am not relating to Post-Modernism’s irony and I am exploring Meta-modern earnestness. I am interested in meaningfulness and not the ubiquitous decorative painting that is primarily meant to enhance the space it’s in.

Darren Jekel is married and fathers two daughters in northern California’s wine growing region.

Materials used:

Oil, emulsion, sand, tar on stretched canvas
