This is a painting of a contemporary dance group in Heraklion. I love the raw emotion in dance. The choreographer likes to strip his performances to basic emotions. This translates beautifully into paintings. In this new series I am slowly reducing the details in the paintings. Using big brushes and painting knives, I am minimising the painters technique. I am breaking down the paintings as the choreographer does to the dancers. I use a warm underpainting to highlight the colder surface colours.

Some paintings look better in photos and other better in real life. This painting is much better in real life! It is also big which adds to the drama.
