As a life long fan of the ballet I wanted to create a series of paintings based on my colleague, and a professional dancer. In particular I was determined to capture both her grace and the strength. I didn't want to paint an ultra thin delicate flower, I wanted to show the power and emotion she is able to generate with the body. To avoid distraction I also decided to strip the image to the essentials. Her body is the instrument she's using to captivate the viewer and the poses were so wonderful I didn't think they required anything else.
