Original artwork description:

I painted this over the lockdown, and I think I little of the oppressive nature in the painting comes from that. There is no panic, just a level of uncertainty and wait-fullness- as well as, of cause, a sense on been isolated from others.
This is the third in the series on the ballerina Clairese Mayo and is the most emotive. I loved the contrast in the poised feet on pointe to the relaxed head lent against her knees, her jaw relaxed. I wanted the background and floor to be almost oppressive, emphasizing her exhaustion and the protective feel of her pose, her reflection opaque and loose as the performance leaves her.

I've tried to keep the texture of the background quite painterly, trying to highlight the process of painting alongside the process behind a ballet performance. This is a collaborative piece with the photographer Steven Lemke and is one of a series on the dancer Clairese Mayo.
The painting is framed professionally in a 75mm Bronze Floral Embossed (high Pattern) wooden frame. It is quite a traditional, high quality frame.. It is framed without glass - which allows the oil paints to breathe and stay healthy.

Materials used:

Artist Quality Acrylic Paintings, Canvas Board, Framed
