This linocut is a part of a series of designs I am making, a sort of tribute to iconic designs in daily life. This part of British everyday life is one of the small things which each of us in the UK recognise but rarely actually look at in a thoughtful way. I like the bold design and colours of the stamp, its simplicity and familiarity give it a reassuring charm. Its place in a long history of such images and its belonging to a certain time and place make it an icon of our time. My linocut print is not an exact replica, like a digital copy would be. I have left some bits which show that it's a handmade linocut, simply inspired by the tiny original, I hope that you like it too.
My linocuts are handmade from start to finish, hand carved, rolled and handprinted, as in the nature of linoprints and the handmade process they may have small variations. This I feel is part of the charm of printmaking and makes each print into both a unique artwork and part of a limited edition run.
Each print is signed, titled and numbered, you might not receive the number seen in the photograph.
