Original artwork description:

I painted this landscape using black, white and red. The real colors I was seeing did not matter then. Feeling the farm in the distance seemed more important and those three colors allowed me to do it.

This is a farm in Normandy where they have cows. They cross that path twice a day to be milked.

After my experience at the farm and seeing what producing milk entails, I stopped consuming dairy. The family who runs the farm was lovely and kind and treated the animals very well. I just had a hard time accepting certain things that are necessary common practice: separating the baby cow from the mother a few hours after it is born; they never see each other again. The young one is put in the barn with other babies and fed with bottles. If it is a male, it will be sold for meat after a few months. The same happens with those females that are not able to get pregnant as well as with all the others after they have given birth a few times.
