Original artwork description:

This is a very well known little croft house in North Uist, part of the Outer Hebrides. The scene has been depicted using a very limited palette to create the feeling of tranquillity. The sea behind the cottage shows subtle reflections from the clouds and even the thatched roof has changed to a slightly more red shade under that same cloud cover. There is a shed at the edge of the garden and a pile of peat stacked against it in readiness for winter fuel.

Materials used:

stretched canvas, acrylic paint
