As part of my Monoliths series, this singular sculpture is made of semi-precious stones (amethyst, malachite...), fossilized stones, various recovered pieces, bronze, copper, and steel, all included into resin at the end.
This particular sculpture might be compared to fossilized stones that would have printed their marks on a boat.
"If I hadn't been a sculptor, I'd have been an archaeologist! ", the artist once told me. His love of stones and the mysteries surrounding them led him to create this work called Chrisolithe. Using materials that were themselves faded and shaped by time, this unusual sculpture was finely crafted in negative or inverse process. After many reflections, the idea was born and the pieces were put together. Created in the same way as if a bronze sculpture had been melted down, it was from clay and then resin that the work emerged. As if coming straight out of the deepest part of the oceans, inclusions of shells, stones, as well as miscellaneous materials and colored marble powders, have been imbricated and fossilized in the resin to shape this pure marine monolith through the ages.
Like the illustrious Caesar, no compression in JL Lacroix's work, but a process of inclusion. Unique item titled and signed "JlL" on the front (on the copper piece). Weight: about 15 kg.
An anti-UV varnish covers the entire sculpture for protection.
Signed monogram JlL, on one side. Certificate of authenticity.
