Hello,
I've been dying to get back to my Rothko series for about a year now - commissions got in the way!
I decided to go back to the yellow palette and to to let the brush do the work to see where the composition went. I love the horizontal configuration here, with the wide bands of deep colour. After layers of thin paint were applied, I scumbled on thicker paint to get the amorphous and torn edges. This way, the white gaps seem to glow through - particularly around the deep purple region.
The canvas has 2 creases - imperfections which I have used in the composition.
I could stare at it for hours.. enjoy, J xx
