Artwork description:

This print is of the water take-off tower of Craig Goch dam in the Elan Valley. It depicts the dam at last light on a snowy day, when the colours of the landscape were very muted and almost monochrome.

The beautiful Elan Valley lies in the heart of mid-Wales and the dams were built at the turn of the 20th Century to provide water to Birmingham. This is done via a gravity-fed, 75 mile long aqueduct.

~

This is a reduction linocut, where the block is successively printed and recut, inked and printed for each layer - a process which results in its gradual destruction.
