Original artwork description:

Painted on-site on Minnehaha Parkway in Minneapolis. Features a couple of spring crabapple trees in full blossom, whose branches together form a shape reminiscent of a bonsai tree. The blossoms range in color from palest pink for the most open, to dark burgundy pink for those not yet fully open. The overall effect is a unique shade of mauve which is shown to best effect in the shadowy evening light. Painted with both palette knife and brush on board. The soft, matte texture of the grass and sky were created with casein paint. The shadows were created with oil wash, and the thicker texture of the blossoms and the background trees was created with oil applied with palette knife. The fullness of the blossoms is highlighted by the contrast with the delicately painted tree trunks and branches. Framed in a 2.5" wide wood framed with a glossy cherry brown finish and gold inner edge. May be purchased unframed by request.

Materials used:

oil paint, casein paint, board
