A wild desert landscape from the American West. Painted on location in watercolor, with a bit of gouache thrown in just to make it right. Painted en plein aire, on location out in the western deserts. I was thrilled with how the changing light changed the colors of the cliffs. Luminous and magical. Vast and quiet.

From a painting trip out west in 1991. I sketched and painted my way across the deserts and canyons, making field studies for an eventual studio series of western paintings. I am offering this piece, one of those field studies, for sale for the first time here on ArtFinder. Others will also be offered as time goes by :-)
