Horse care: Cowboys helped care for horses in addition to herding cattle.
Fencing and building repair: Cowboys repaired fences and buildings.
Frontier town establishment: Cowboys sometimes helped establish frontier towns.
Entertainment: Cowboys sang songs, played the guitar or harmonica, and wrote poetry for entertainment.
Cowboys typically wore large hats, boots, and bandanas. They sometimes wore chaps to protect their legs from cactus needles and rocky terrain.
Cowboys worked long hours, sometimes up to 20 hours a day.
The cowboy way of life was impacted by the invention of barbed wire fencing, the growth of the railroad, and the increased privatization of land.
