We visited Costa Rica earlier this year and I found it so inspiring that I have been working on a series of jungle pieces since then. This is my second in the series. We stayed in an apartment in the middle of the jungle and each window seemed to offer an amazing vignette - this is what I have have tried to recreate here, a jungle view. I made watercolour sketches and took many photos whilst out there and then painted the final canvas in my studio on London.
I have used a linen canvas which I primed with a very dark green base and built up with my usual Michael Harding paints. The big challenge here was trying to capture all the different greens. Also the light in the jungle seems to pierce and illuminate some areas whilst leaving shadows deep in darkness. The painting is framed in a wooden natural coloured box frame which I chose to reflect the warmth in the painting.
