This work «Cossack Church» was painted during autumn plein air in the village of Sidnev, located near the ancient city of Chernigov. Sydneys called Cossacks who had retired from military affairs and settled on their land allotments. In this place they formed a whole settlement (place – Sydnev). Here they transferred their wooden church from the Zaporozhye Sich. This church is assembled without a single nail, is characteristic for Ukrainian wooden architecture. In the 60s of the 20th century, the film "Viy" (based on Nikolai Gogol), one of the first Soviet horror films, was shot here. I decided to depict this church on a sunny day, when the wooden church glows beautifully in the sun's rays
