Original artwork description:

An early summer hydrangea flower attracting a passerby, how alluring these young budding plants must be to butterflies overhead! It's as if this orb of petals has a gravitational pull on it's visitor, like a planet attracting any matter that enters its orbit. My botanical paintings often evolve other-worldly microcosms and I really enjoyed creating a spiraling effect with the leaves around the composition. This painting took many layers of translucent watercolor and gouache to create a sense of depth.
