Why MDF is better than canvas
Many customers have a prejudice against paintings on MDF. They believe that "genuine painting" should only be on canvas. However, in fact, painting on MDF (or on canvas on MDF) has a number of advantages that painting on canvas doesn't.
Here are just a few of them:
- MDF cannot be torn, pierced with an elbow, etc.
- painting on MDF can be easily framed (framing usually does not require a stretcher – a frame is attached directly to the painting on MDF with special metal plates)
- MDF does not sag like canvas does
- MDF is cheaper than stretched canvas, but MDF more durable then canvas
- painting on MDF is easier, safer and cheaper to ship by mail.
If MDF had existed in the 17th or 18th century, most of the paintings of the "old masters" would have been painted on it.
So, be modern! Feel free to buy painting on MDF!
It will serve even to your descendants!
