The Corantijn Basin is one of a number of archaeological sites located in the hinterland of Suriname in South America. The Suriname archaeological sites provide information on prehistoric human populations (Amerindians or Indians) who lived in Suriname before 1492. Most of the petroglyphs are in the Corantijn Basin site. Petroglyphs provide an important insight into the ceremonial, mythical and religious world of these precontact indigenous peoples.
