Original artwork description:

Con/trast_211 is an acrylics and sumi-e ink painting on canvas board. The painting contrasts an expressive background layer with fine repeating linear patterns, with geometric shapes and linear patterns in the foreground: the fine patterns are more boldly repeated in the foreground, while color contrasts provide for an altogether bold and "powerful" composition. The painting takes up a familiar color scheme and shapes from my other abstract paintings and drawings while exploring novel usages of patterns and (physical) fine structures within the painting.
Doing so, it takes inspiration from Russian avantgarde and Bauhaus painting styles, as well as contempory artists such as Carmen Herrera that "play" with simple yet powerful combinations of geometric shapes.
