Concrete Composition 22 (For David Novros) is another example of my continuing Concrete Compositions Series. It is a homage to David Novros, born in 1941, who is an American abstract painter often associated with The Minimalist School. David Novros is known for his monumental, chromatic and abstract paintings composed of irregularly shaped, multipaneled canvases that he has exhibited since the 1960s.
A sojourn in Europe was transformative for his art, and among the influential discoveries he made were the Italian early Renaissance fresco paintings with their immersive power. During the 1970s and 80s, Novros painted a number of frescos on site, including notably for the offices of the United Gas Pipeline Company in Houston, Texas (1975); for the lobby of the Gooch Auditorium at the University of Texas Health Science Center Dallas, Texas (1977); the Newark Pennsylvania Station (1983-84); and the Old Federal Court House, Miami, Florida (1984)
Many of his works consists of browns, grays, blues, greens and other earth tone colors in geometric shapes. Due to David Novro's interest in wall painting, he has distanced himself from the art market and rarely exhibits in commercial galleries, but has exhibited with the Paula Cooper Gallery.
This acrylic painting is on Arteza 11 x 14 inch, 246 lb (27.9 x 35.5 cm, 400 gm) paper. Signed, titled, and dated on the back.
Acrylic paint, matte medium, gesso, satin varnish
