Original artwork description:

A4 acrylic and pencil illustration on 250gsm paper.

A regal and elegant bird, this common crane was the perfect subject. I've enjoyed illustrating these bird portraits, especially when it comes to those with long necks, the lines undulate and flow creating a beautiful sense of movement in the artwork.

'The Great Crane Project' is a reintroduction initiative in the UK that since the 80's has seen breeding cranes return to the UK after a four hundred year absence. In the 2000's this project involved collecting eggs and rearing the resulting chicks in captivity before they were ready to be released. As of last year at least eighty breeding pairs are know to exist an incredible rise from one pair in 1979.
