'Collage V' is printed on archival paper and is part of Slasky’s series ‘Metamorphosis’ (2018).
In this collection of works the artist portrays what we are versus what we want others to see us as. Slasky’s collages are inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, where a new person was created through several body parts taken from other people.
By applying features taken from some of our contemporary beauty icons onto what would appear to be a woman’s face, the artist created six portraits that hold many features that we would all deem beautiful, but somehow look bizarre and ‘wrong’. Through the creation of these non-existing women, Slasky draws attention to our constant search for physical perfection, concluding that what others see matters very little if at the end of a long day we are still unhappy with our reflection in the mirror.
