When I was painting this painting I was struck by the unusual colours of orange, dark and light, of pinks, blues and ice cream white. They were like a sweet confectionery of colours. Artificial but still attractive.
There was a real sense of warm and cold at the same time. The warm orangy blusher hues of the face-baked make up, pink hair and copper-brown sunglasses tangled in her hair, all juxtaposed with the cold blue and ice cream white.
I suddenly thought of a Blondie lyric that sums up this model.
It is from Sunday Girl, hence the title:-
" I know a girl from a lonely street
Cold as ice cream but still as sweet"
