Coastal Storm is a small (8 x 10 inches) realist oil painting on panel. Inspired by a trip to Cromer in Norfolk, England on a stormy day. "I was drawn to the power of the sea in turmoil, the beach awash with white foam. I loved the almost monochromatic greys and whites and the abstract patterns in the foam. The steps in the foreground enable people to step over the breakwater to other parts of the beach. I included it in the painting to add to the foreground, giving the paintings more depth and a sense of scale".
Christopher Witchall's unsentimental approach to his subjects combine traditional painting techniques with the realism and cool detachment of photography.
The painting is sold unframed.
