While painting on location recently, I became attracted to this lovely scene. Trees were lined up on either side of the pathway leading toward the lookout over the Mississippi River. Early morning sunlight made the trees come alive with beautiful shadows and light. I always try to capture the light effect of the scene or the reference photo. As I often do, I pushed the colors, from the local color to colors that incorporate more intense purples and yellow greens.

My materials include artist oils and a Masonite hard board panel coated with several coats of gesso. The painting measures 6" x 8" or 15 x 20 centimeters. A professional camera was used to ensure the image is as close to the actual painting colors as I can get. I varnished the painting to protect and preserve the paint surface.
