I began Children’s Chatter by washing the background with reds, greys, whites and greens. Mixing, mixing, washing with water, and a lot of blending with a soft, floppy brush. I’d paint swirls of teals and green, think it not right, and then change the composition completely by washing back over what I’d done until I decided I the bright colors I left peaking out from behind that new wash were just right. Some silver, red and blue paint pen here and there, scribbles of charcoal, until it reminded me of distant happy chatter and giggles in another room. The colors are soft, and maybe a bit childlike, as are some of the shapes. I felt Children’s Chatter belonged to the world of the those who will someday inherit our lives, but are now blissfully too uncomplicated to do so... and right now in the other room enjoying the simplicity of their day.
