Chartres Cathedral Rose Window
Acrylic Gouache on Paper
Unframed: 56 x 56cm
Signed by the Artist
Certificate of Authenticity
This beautiful circular painting depicts the rose window of Notre Dame Cathedral in Chartres, France. There is much symbolism in stained glass windows and this is no exception. The red represents the blood of Christ and the blue purity and innocence. The centre depicts the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus. Outside of the centre there are 12 of each design as this number is important in the bible and symbolises faith. The designs include the French fleur-de-lis, the disciples and the angels.
This painting forms part of my latest collection which explores modern society's relationship with religion.
