Artwork description:

The image depicts the North end of Central Park looking towards the area where John Lennon lived. Central Park at the time was not the safest of places, and the early morning light catching the edges of skyscrapers had something of the bright crispness special to New York, like you see in Hopper's paintings. The screenprint uses only three colours to divide the image into background, mid-distance and foreground. Here the 'drawing' or detail is left mostly to the last colour, purple, to polar opposite of yellow, which adds to the dramatic, spooky atmosphere.

Materials used:

Screenprint on Arches Paper, Butol based inks
