This art work is painted with artist quality oil paint (Michael Harding) has excellent colour fastness, The work is painted on a tradition gesso ground and is titled and signed on the reverse. The painting has a flat, matt, non-reflective surface and doesn't require hanging hardware.
The subject of “cows” is fascinating and a subject I have visited and revisited for over fifteen years. Objectified and worshipped by some cultures but vilified and abused by others. They possess, therefore, an intriguing duality and are, for me, a suitable metaphor for all that is good and bad in human advancement! Often I subtley subvert the subjects in the form of changing the pattern of their hides or in the form of codes and hidden messages in the form of branding; these beasts are carriers of socio-political statements!
