"Catémbe" is an acrylic and mixed media painting on canvas 92cms W x 115cms H. It is part of a series of paintings called ‘The Jazz Series’. This series of paintings has been inspired by listening to the music of Miles Davis and this particular work is named after a piece from the album Amandla. The album is experimental in combining elements of jazz, funk and hip hop through a combination of electronic and acoustic instruments. The painting is also inspired by African Art and intends to represent the African symbols of growth and natural fertility through colour and surface together with a respect for African dance which embodies graceful beauty flowing with rhythm marking the experiences of life, encouraging abundant crops, and healing the sick soul and body. The painting is built in washes of colour and dense layers of impasto paint combined with collaged paper and canvas embellished with fragments of beach sand and crushed shells. I think painting should express all kinds of different things and not be limited. Honesty is important in painting. When I need to change something, I don’t force change on myself, it just happens. I look to the great colourists to reassure my judgments. Artists such a Howard Hodgkin, John Hoyland, Barbara Rae and Gillian Ayres. Limited edition A2 prints on photo quality paper are also available. Please see full description.
The painting is shipped in a robust custom made cardboard crate (same as those used to transport large screens). The painting is bubble wrapped to protect the canvas. Further wrapping is made with corrugated card. A wooden frame is placed inside the cardboard crate to preserve the structural strength of the packaging. Each painting is insured to its sale value. Shipping costs within the U.K. take into consideration weight and insurance. U.K. shipping costs for this artwork are £90
