Castle Crag may be the lowest Wainwright, but this crag makes up for a lack of height with bags of character. My print captures two charming scots pines on the lower slopes.
To scale Castle Crag probably only takes an hour, even if you dawdle. The trickiest element of the walk is tackling the scree slope portrayed in my print. The remnants of a mine that used to be situated at the top of Castle Crag, the slate scree has a a peculiar feature in that the shards are commonly ‘V’ shaped.
This print comprises five colours and hopefully demonstrates the colour of the grey green slate rock of the scree. The fell side in the background is bathed in sunshine, which again I have hopefully captured with the colours used.
