Collage painting on stretched canvas. Edges painted black, wire on back, ready to hang.
Second photo shows sample reverse from this size/series.
This one is inspired by the portrait of the Marchesa Luisa di Casati by Augustus John, which hangs in the Art Gallery of Ontario and which I have visited for 40 years. She was an eccentric wild spirit who helped fund artists and writers in her wide circles with her lavish inheritance, contributing in a huge but seldom talked about way to the development of contemporary art.
Lorette's signature squares explore the whole world with eclectic curiosity, irreverence, and an eye for both humour and beauty. She takes inspiration from art history, literature, cinema, culture, and personal experiences, mining everything she sees and discovers for its aesthetic possibilities. Her collage paintings are at turns surreal, quirky, urban, abstract, and beautiful. Her squares have been collected in dozens of countries around the world, exhibited internationally, and published on text book covers, in literary journals, and beyond. She creates album sized squares 12x12 inches because they fit into nooks and crannies and small space living. She also creates large and oversized mixed media paintings.
