At my home, I and my son played with cardboard mask and, from a photograph made as a joke, the idea of this painting was ignited.
Looking in a mirror, or at a pictures, with a mask can bring out mant troughts. I ended up thinking about self denial. When circumstances, one's nature as well as external situations lead us - when they don’t force us - to pretend, to fake circumstantial attitudes.
This is how I explain this painting: forced smile and pose of fake attention, with hat and mask to give a jesting tone to the whole picture.
Please note: for shipments outside EU delivery times can be long, due to certification for artwork's expatriation to be requested from Fine Art's Ministry.
