Shortly before leaving London, I travelled by canal and took inspiration from the buildings and bridges. It is tinged with sadness maybe. I wanted to capture the sky, a portentous, ominous sky, and the texture of the bricks and stucco. I wanted to feel the heat, and smell the heady scent of the canal and the flowers. Shadows beckon, pockets of mystery.
The work is a great souvenir of the city, a perfect gift. Texture has been added to create extra depth. The canvas is 0.8 inches deep and can therefore hang without a frame if wished.
